Event Description

From 13–15 March 2017, Secure World Foundation co-sponsored a Wilton Park conference titled “Governing Space Activity in the 21st Century.” Held at Wiston House (West Sussex, UK) with support from the German and UK foreign ministries and Airbus Defence & Space, the invitation-only meeting gathered government, industry and scientific experts—especially from emerging space nations—to discuss how accelerating, increasingly commercial space activity demands fresh norms and a rules-based framework. Objectives centred on sharing best practices, pinpointing areas where international cooperation is most urgent, and outlining pathways toward formal agreements that build trust and guide responsible behaviour in orbit.
