Secure World Foundation will participate in the 2026 Würzburger Europarechtstage, “The European Union in Outer Space,” hosted by the University of Würzburg from June 15–16 in Würzburg, Germany.
The conference will examine the future of the European Union’s engagement in outer space at a time when governments, corporations, and research institutions are increasingly focused on space activity. Discussions will address the growing role of space infrastructure in economic development, communication, navigation, research, and security, as well as the European Union’s challenge of developing a space policy aligned with sustainability, autonomy, and resilience.
The event will include a public keynote, a roundtable discussion, and panels on topics including satellite mega-constellations, environmental impacts, the militarization of space, the role of the United Nations in maintaining orbital security, and the relationship between space activities and the EU’s defense strategy.
Almudena Azcárate Ortega, SWF Senior Program Analyst, Space Law and Regulation at Secure World Foundation, will participate in the panel “Outer Space as a Domain of Militarization, Conflict and Defence,” where she will speak on space security law.
