Where: Lausanne, Switzerland
The workshop entitled Space Sustainability: Bridging Initiatives and Perspectives co-organized by SWF the EPFL Space Center, and the EU COST network FOGOS, and in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the ERC project PlanetStewards, convened a multidisciplinary group of experts to discuss the implementation and intersection of capacity building initiatives focused on space sustainability. Beginning from an interactive exercise mapping gaps and commonalities in space sustainability considerations across space security, space environment, and peace & equity dimensions, the workshop engaged stakeholders from government, industry, and academia in a discussion of the connection between theoretical frameworks and practical implementation of capacity building effort related to space sustainability. Particular focus areas in the discussion included information sharing challenges for both space traffic coordination and understanding the environmental impacts of space activities. A summary report from the workshop is forthcoming.
This event was based upon work from COST Action < FOGOS, CA CA23118 >, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology).
