Secure World Foundation will participate in “The Emerging Lunar Economy and Cislunar Governance,” a National Academies workshop taking place August 26, 2026, in Washington, D.C.
The workshop will focus on current governance structures supporting the cislunar economy and major gaps in those structures. Discussions will examine why lunar and cislunar governance is becoming more urgent as government and commercial activity expands beyond Earth orbit.
Victoria Samson, SWF Chief Director, Space Security and Stability, will join a panel on why lunar and cislunar governance matter and what could happen if governance is not done well.
The panel will address risks tied to under-governance and over-governance. Topics are expected to include the long-term consequences of mistakes in lunar and cislunar environments, competition over limited sites and key orbits, the need for shared traffic rules and attribution mechanisms, and the risks of premature rules that could lock in poor assumptions or limit investment.
This event is by invitation only. For questions, please contact Victoria Samson.
