Secure World Foundation is pleased to announce that Dr. Anne-Sophie Martin has been selected as a 2026 Space Sustainability Research Fellow.
Each year, SWF’s Space Sustainability Research Fellowship supports focused research on core concepts and policy questions that shape the long-term sustainability of outer space. The 2026 fellowship focuses on models for private sector participation in international governance for space safety and space traffic coordination.
Dr. Martin is a research assistant in international law at Sapienza University of Rome and a visiting researcher at the Institute for Innovation, International Law and Sustainability of the National Research Council of Italy. Her work focuses on international law and space law, with research experience in the protection of the space environment, lunar environmental protection, space traffic management, and the legal dimensions of dual-use space technologies.
She holds an LL.M. in space and telecommunications law from Paris-Saclay University and a Ph.D. in international law and space law from Sapienza University of Rome. She is a member of the Legal Council of For All Moonkind and a Senior Fellow at its Institute on Space Law and Ethics. She is also affiliated with the International Astronomical Union’s Centre for the Protection of Dark and Quiet Skies.
Since 2021, Dr. Martin has been a member of the Global Expert Group on Sustainable Lunar Activities, where she serves as Co-Chair of the working group on lunar environment protection. Since 2024, she has served as French Co-Chair of the AI and Space Law Society.
As an SWF Fellow, Dr. Martin will contribute research on private sector participation in international governance for space safety and space traffic coordination. Her final report and executive summary will be published on the SWF website after completion of the fellowship.
