Secure World Foundation (SWF), in partnership with the Council on Strategic Risks (CSR) and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), will participate in the Dialogue to Strengthen the Outer Space Treaty: New York Follow-On Discussion on October 21, 2026, in New York City.

The invitation-only policy dialogue will bring together experts in space security, strategic stability, arms control, and international law to examine ways to reinforce the Outer Space Treaty (OST) and strengthen legally binding restrictions against the placement of nuclear weapons in outer space.

As reliance on space-based capabilities continues to grow, ensuring compliance with the OST and preventing the deployment of nuclear weapons in orbit remain critical to international security. Participants will explore approaches to strengthening the Treaty, promoting responsible behavior in outer space, and reducing risks associated with potential nuclear escalation.

The New York discussion builds on the May 2026 Dialogue to Strengthen the Outer Space Treaty and Deter the Placement of Nuclear Weapons in Outer Space, held in Geneva, Switzerland, and co-organized by SWF, CSR, and GCSP. The follow-on meeting will provide an opportunity to continue discussions and identify potential pathways for strengthening international cooperation and preserving the peaceful uses of outer space.

The initiative is supported by Carnegie Corporation of New York and Longview Philanthropy through the Consortium to Reduce Nuclear Dangers.
