Counterspace Capabilities, Golden Dome, and the Current State of Strategic Stability

This presentation examines the evolving threats to space systems and the implications for stability and sustainability in the space domain. It outlines the growing development and testing of counterspace capabilities—including co-orbital systems, direct-ascent ASAT weapons, electronic warfare, and cyber operations—and how these capabilities can affect global security dynamics. The presentation also discusses the role of space situational awareness (SSA) as a transparency mechanism for identifying activities in orbit and reducing misperceptions between space actors. Additionally, it highlights the risks posed by rendezvous and proximity operations and the rapid expansion of large satellite constellations, which could create new challenges for strategic stability and space governance.
