This statement outlines Secure World Foundation’s efforts across its four strategic focus areas: space sustainability, space law and policy, human and environmental security, and planetary defense. It highlights:

  • Support for international cooperation through sponsorship of the first symposium on legal/policy aspects of space cooperation between Europe and BRICS nations in Leiden.
  • A panel on “Cooperation vs. Competition in Space” in Brussels, co-hosted with Women in Aerospace Europe, celebrating 50 years since the first woman in space.
  • Engagement of youth through scholarships to attend the 2013 IAC in Beijing and contributions to the Space Generation Fusion Forum at the National Space Symposium.
  • Organization of a plenary on long-term sustainability and continued partnership with UNIDIR for the Geneva Space Security Conference, focusing on space conflict prevention.
  • Co-sponsorship of the Planetary Defense Conference 2013 in Arizona, addressing mitigation of near-Earth object (NEO) threats.
  • Input to the UN Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on Transparency and Confidence-Building Measures (TCBMs), and hosting a session on space and stability at the Brussels Forum.

In closing, SWF reaffirmed its mission to ensure secure and sustainable space use through dialogue, research, and international partnerships
