Secure World Foundation reports on its broad array of initiatives supporting space law, policy development, and sustainability since June 2021. Highlights include:
- Summit for Space Sustainability:
Hosted the third edition virtually, drawing over 500 participants globally. The 2022 Summit was announced as an in-person event to be co-hosted with the UK Space Agency in London. - Handbook for New Actors in Space:
Continued distribution of multilingual editions (Spanish, French, Chinese). Free PDF versions available to support emerging actors in understanding space law and best practices. - UNOOSA Legal Advisory Project:
SWF remains a funding stakeholder (with Belgium, Chile, Japan, Luxembourg) of this initiative, which supports new space nations in drafting national space laws consistent with international norms. - Lunar Governance Engagement:
Through the Moon Dialogues (with Open Lunar Foundation, ASU, MIT, and others), SWF leads discussions on lunar policy. SWF staff also contribute to GEGSLA (Global Expert Group on Sustainable Lunar Activities) and have previously supported The Hague Working Group. - Treaty Universalization:
Recognizing COPUOS’s growing membership (now at 100 states), SWF calls for reflection on how to universalize adherence to UN space treaties.
The Foundation reiterates its support for COPUOS’s inclusive, multilateral process, particularly the role of civil society in advancing sustainable, peaceful space governance.
