February 2015 – UN COPUOS STSC: Agenda Item – Long-Term Sustainability (LTS) of Outer Space Activities – Handbook for New Actors in Space

This statement introduces Secure World Foundation’s initiative to develop a Handbook for New Actors in Space as a complement to the UN COPUOS Long-Term Sustainability (LTS) guidelines. It highlights the rapid diversification of space actors, including emerging space nations, start-ups, and universities, and addresses the need for accessible guidance on laws, norms, and best practices for responsible space activities. The handbook aims to provide interdisciplinary insights on technical, legal, and policy aspects, helping new entrants understand and adopt sustainable, safe, and peaceful space operations. SWF invites feedback and collaboration from the global space community to shape the content.
