January 25–29, 2027 | Washington, D.C.
Secure World Foundation (SWF) will host its inaugural Space Boot Camp for Nuclear Policy Professionals from January 25–29, 2027, in Washington, D.C. The week-long program will bring together 20 early-career nuclear policy professionals to explore the connections between space security, nuclear security, and strategic stability.
As space systems become increasingly integral to national security and nuclear command-and-control capabilities, understanding the relationship between space activities and nuclear risk reduction is essential. The Space Boot Camp aims to equip the next generation of researchers, negotiators, and diplomats with foundational knowledge of space systems, emerging security challenges, and the evolving commercial space landscape.
Participants will engage with subject matter experts through lectures, interactive discussions, and practical exercises covering orbital mechanics, counterspace capabilities, space governance, satellite operations, and commercial space activities. The program will also include an offsite field visit and a half-day tabletop exercise designed to explore real-world security challenges and potential escalation scenarios.
The Space Boot Camp is part of SWF's initiative, Strengthening Strategic Stability at the Nexus of Space and Nuclear Security, supported by Carnegie Corporation of New York. Through this initiative, SWF seeks to strengthen cross-sector understanding, foster lasting professional relationships, and support informed decision-making on issues affecting international security and the peaceful uses of outer space.
Applications for the inaugural program have closed.
