8th Summit for Space Sustainability in Brasília, Brazil

For the first time, Secure World Foundation’s Summit for Space Sustainability will take place in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), bringing the global space sustainability conversation to Brasília, Brazil. The Latin American and Caribbean region has a long history of space activity, innovation, and international cooperation, and we are looking forward to exploring these issues in November!

Co-hosted by the Secure World Foundation, the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), and the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Federal District (SECTI-DF), the 8th Summit for Space Sustainability will bring together experts and stakeholders from across the region and around the world to examine the policy, technical, and operational questions shaping sustainability in the long-term use of space.

The Summit for Space Sustainability will highlight the LAC region’s growing space capabilities and will examine how national and regional priorities contribute to a safe, accessible, and sustainably managed space environment for current and future generations.

Across Latin America and the Caribbean, space systems already play an important role in environmental monitoring, agriculture, disaster response, connectivity, maritime and border management, and other beneficial services. At the same time, regional space programs are expanding their activities in Earth observation, satellite development, launch infrastructure, and international cooperation. The Summit for Space Sustainability will explore how those capabilities and priorities can inform wider discussions about responsible behavior, access to data, national regulation, orbital safety, and international coordination.

Brasília offers a fitting setting for these discussions, as the federal center of Brazil. Brazil’s growing space capabilities and its role in regional and multilateral cooperation can help connect the LAC experience with the broader international space sustainability agenda.

This Year’s Agenda

The Summit for Space Sustainability agenda is now available. Participants can explore the sessions, regional perspectives, and the policy, technical, and operational issues that will guide the conversation in Brasília. Speakers are being confirmed and announced on an ongoing basis.

This year’s program will include local, regional, and international speakers bringing together perspectives from government, industry, and academia. Speakers from across Latin America and the Caribbean region will discuss the evolving space capabilities and priorities and, along with international experts, examine the global challenges and opportunities shaping the sustainability of outer space.

Key governmental and industry actors will provide updates and perspectives on current space issues throughout the Summit for Space Sustainability program. A panel composed of key organizations in Brazil’s space ecosystem, including AEB and Anatel, will discuss approaches to space sustainability across Brazil’s institutions. Regional and international agencies will share updates on efforts to improve coordination as lunar activities increase. The European Space Agency will present progress updates on the Zero Debris Charter, and national space agencies from the LAC region, Europe, and Asia will share viewpoints on balancing regulatory development and industrial promotion. The China National Space Administration (CNSA) will also deliver a presentation on ongoing efforts within China to develop space traffic management practices.

Pre-Conference Programming

The 8th Summit for Space Sustainability begins November 4, 2026, but there will be several opportunities to connect, learn, and participate in Brasília the day before the main program. The opening reception on November 3, 2026, is open to all registrants to grow their networks, meet speakers, and enjoy exclusive access to a historic planetarium.

SG[BR] 2026

SG[BR] 2026 will occur in cooperation with the 8th Summit for Space Sustainability. This dynamic gathering, which will take place on November 3, 2026, at the Brazilian Space Agency Auditorium, brings together university students, young professionals, and space enthusiasts to strengthen Brazil's space community. The event offers a platform for the collaborative exchange of knowledge, with a focus on sustainability and the future of space exploration. The program includes in-depth discussions on Brazil and South America’s role in the new space economy, the importance of nations in defining norms of responsible behavior in space, and the opportunities in in-orbit manufacturing and maintenance for a circular space economy. Furthermore, the event will address the legal and ethical challenges of exploring the Moon and Mars, providing a comprehensive overview of humanity's next steps in space exploration. Separate registration is required. Participants to SG[BR] will receive a discounted registration to Secure World Foundation’s Summit for Space Sustainability.

Space Sustainability Learning Labs

Secure World Foundation's Space Learning Labs will explore two key dimensions of space sustainability: counterspace capabilities and security, and the evolving role of new space actors. Drawing on Secure World Foundation’s Global Counterspace Capabilities Assessment and the Handbook for New Space Actors in Space, the Learning Labs will showcase how stakeholders can use these resources to better understand emerging challenges and identify practical approaches to responsible space activities. Each Learning Lab will begin with an interactive panel discussion with subject matter experts to discuss and unpack key policy, regulatory, and security challenges, while connecting them to real-world questions of space sustainability. Participants will then move into small group discussions, where they will explore scenarios and guiding questions through a workshop-style, collaborative format, providing an opportunity to learn about space sustainability through a more hands-on approach.
