AMOS 2013 Dialogue Report

Secure World Foundation and the Maui Economic Development Board held the inaugural AMOS Dialogue during the 2013 Advanced Maui Optical and Space Surveillance Technologies (AMOS) Conference. This half-day, closed-door workshop brought together government, industry, and international actors to examine how the space community can better share the burden of space situational awareness (SSA) and improve operational safety in orbit.
The discussion focused on the status and future of SSA sharing programs, gaps in current services, legal constraints around data sharing, and the role of end users in shaping improvements. Participants emphasized the growing need to broaden the definition of SSA, involve non-traditional and emerging space actors, and work toward distributed capabilities that enable better data validation and trust.
This report summarizes key takeaways from both provider and end-user perspectives and reflects on the future of SSA cooperation as space becomes more congested and complex.
