AMOS 2020 Dialogue Report

The 2020 AMOS Dialogue, held virtually on September 21, 2020, brought together global experts to explore science and technology priorities in space situational awareness (SSA) and space traffic management. Co-hosted by Secure World Foundation and the Maui Economic Development Board, this not-for-attribution workshop highlighted data fusion, satellite autonomy, and active debris removal (ADR) as urgent focus areas.
Participants discussed emerging challenges from the rapid growth in active satellites, the lack of standardization in data sharing, and the need for short-term solutions rather than waiting for perfect systems. The group examined existing gaps in SSA-related R&D, emphasized the importance of transparency and open access to commercial data, and addressed the complexities of global coordination.
The report captures shared concerns and expert recommendations around building resilient technical and policy infrastructures to support a safe space environment. It also explores lessons from other domains, like weather forecasting, that could inform more effective data fusion strategies in space.
