AMOS 2014 Dialogue Report

Held in Tokyo ahead of the IS3DU 2014 symposium, the 2014 AMOS Dialogue brought together experts from around the world to discuss how space situational awareness (SSA) providers and end users can collaborate more effectively. The event was co-hosted by Secure World Foundation, the Maui Economic Development Board, and the Japan Space Forum.
The discussion covered a range of global SSA initiatives, including developments by USSTRATCOM, the Space Data Association, and efforts across Australia, Europe, Singapore, and Japan. Participants identified challenges in data policy, the role of private sector SSA, and the need for political commitment to data sharing.
The Dialogue also explored the implications of SSA for broader transparency and confidence-building measures (TCBMs) and the work of the UN Group of Governmental Experts. Participants stressed that while SSA alone cannot prevent irresponsible behavior, it plays a critical role in creating transparency and reducing misperceptions that can lead to conflict.
This report captures the event's key themes and insights to support ongoing efforts to promote space sustainability and responsible behavior in orbit.
